When an insurance adjuster evaluates your property, they are looking for damage such as the following........

Hail Impact to a cedar shake roof:
You can see the hail impact left a fresh "pock mark," that is directly in line with a fresh (reddish cedar color) split. This esposes the undermatting. This layer of protectant stands between the interior of your home and the elements.

Hail Bruise Hail Impact to an asphalt shingle:
You can see the hail impact left an indentation that removed the granules. The protective layer of granules is responsible for reflecting the sun's heat. When this occurs, the undermatting is exposed. The sun will eat through the matting rather quickly. Overall, the roof has been jeopardized and will prematurely deteriorate. The eventual outcome is interior leakage.

Wind damage to an asphalt roof:
When high winds go through an area, it has the ability to completely remove shingles. This also exposes the underlayment to the elements, and it's only a matter of time before moisture finds it's way into your home.

Hail indentations to a flu cap:
This shows evidence of a hail storm. "Collateral damage" doesn't necessarily effect the functionability of home accessories, but does have an aesthetic impact.
